Hello and welcome to our class page.
We are Mrs Frankland, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs O'Brien and this year will be teaching Year 2. We will be supported by Mrs Blackwood.
In Maths this term we will be securing place value of numbers to 100, adding and subtracting within 100, as well as recalling bonds up to 20 and learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
We will be exploring many different books in English lessons, including 'Beegu', 'Beware of Boys' and 'Toby and the Great Fire of London'.
In History, we will be learning about the Great fire of London and the impact this event had on our country.
In Geography, we will learn about the seven continents and five oceans of the world.
In Science, we will be exploring the topic of animals including humans, where we will learn about animal life cycles. We will also be studying Materials and their Properties, discovering if all materials behave the same way.
During our Music sessions, we will be practising explore beat, rhythm and tempo focussing on South African songs. We will also be learning Ukelele with a specialist music teacher.
In RE we will be exploring Christianity and God and why the Bible is special to Christians, as well as some special events such as harvest. We will also learn about the story of St. Cuthbert as well as discovering why light is significant at Christmas time.
In PSHE, we will be exploring how we belong to a community as well as how to respect ourselves and others.
We will be creating 3D clay houses in Art, focusing on the work of the artist Rachel Whiteread as our inspiration.
For DT, we will consider what makes a healthy meal, using the Eat Well plate as a guide. We will then design, make and evaluate our own healthy pizzas. Yum!
PE this half term will be on a Friday. We will learn how to attack and defend in team games. We will also take part in coached yoga sessions. Please ensure your child has their full kit in school. Kits will then be sent home at the end of half term to be washed.
In KS1 the following will be sent home each week:
Accelerated Reader banded reading books – these are changed whenever your child has completed a quiz, either at home or school. Don’t worry about reading a full book each day, reading a couple of pages each day will be great. Please just make a note of which page you have read up to.
Homework Books: Each week, your child will complete either a Maths or English activity. They will also have spellings to learn, ready for a spelling test on Friday.
Please remember to read with your child as often as possible.
